Sweet potatoes are one of my favorite root vegetables. I love it because of its versatility and how quickly you can turn it into or include it with many healthy recipes, such as Sweet potato soup, gnocchi, baked potatoes, and everyone’s favourite, fries but the list doesn’t end there. It’s also a healthy carb that you can add to your diet as it contains antioxidants and also rich in vitamin B, C, D. According to the nutritionix 100g of sweet potatoes contains,
Sweet Potatoes are always on our shopping list, trying to pick up at least a kilo every time we go grocery shopping. I always look for the yellow ones because it’s more nutritious and rich in flavour and better in texture. The mighty yellow yam isn’t easy to come by maybe that’s why I yearn so much for it, oh well that’s a mystery for another day.
The recipe that I’m sharing today is the air fried sweet potatoes, a quick healthy homemade snack that you can enjoy.
Ingredients
- 02 large sweet potatoes
- 01 tsp of salt
- 1/2 tsp of pepper
- 01 tsp of paprika or chili powder
- 01 tsp of nutritional yeast – shop at Bohemian Quest
- 01 tbsp of olive oil
Dipping sauce
- 02 tbsp of Kewpie mayo
- 01 tbsp of curd
- Few chopped coriander leaves
Few tips to make the best Air fryer sweet potato fries
- Don’t forget to preheat your air fryer – You need to preheat your air fryer at least 03-04 minutes prior to adding food to get the really nice and crispy fries.
- Try not to cut the pieces too thick – When you are preparing the fries make sure they are either 1/4 inch or 1/2 thick in size otherwise your fries will not be crispy.
- Do not overcrowd the basket – When the air fryer basket is overcrowded the hot air cannot circulate properly which will cause the food to cook unevenly.
- Toss and turn – You need to toss and turn your fries periodically when flying in the air fryer to get them cooking evenly and making them crisper.
- Let the fries rest – After seasoning the fries let it rest for 05 to 10 minutes so that it absorbs the flavor.
Method
- Rinse and cut the sweet potatoes into sticks, 1/2 inch width and 03-4 inch long. I did not remove the skin of the sweet potatoes as its edible and its nutritious. but you can always remove the skin or leave the skin on as your preference.
- Add olive oil and mix the sweet potatoes making sure that the fries are well covered with the oil.
- Add the seasoning (salt, pepper, chili powder, nutritional yeast) and give it a good mix.
- Meanwhile, pre-heat your air fryer for 03 minutes at 180°C (350°F).
- When the air fryer is heated arrange the fries in one layer without overlapping and fry for 17-20 minutes until golden and crispy. Make sure you toss and turn them around every 5 minutes to make sure they fry well.
- Once done remove the fries from the air fryer and arrange them on a plate, sprinkle some more seasoning if you like a strong flavor, and enjoy with some dipping sauce.
